Here is my finished version of my timelapse. I’m really pleased with the way it’s turned out considering I’ve never created my own before. I found editing slightly difficult at first but once I managed to get my head around the software I was using, I was fine and managed to finish. I think I prefer using photography more than film though, the quality of the footage from the photos look much clearer and show the transition much smoother than the film. I loved doing this project, its definitely inspired me to create more timelapse photography in future work.

These are the starting shots for each location I photographed for my timelapse. I took around 100 photos for each area so I would have enough footage. I also took three pieces of film in Penmon, Pentraeth beach and Tal-y-bont. I thought a mixture of both film and photography would be ideal to help me learn more about working with film.

Compositing Research

Before creating my compositing video, I needed to get some inspiration from other VFX Editors. I searched through YouTube to find out how some editors create their movies. I learnt many facts whilst watching these videos and it made me feel ready to start compositing myself.

ARD502 Anglesey Timelapse Attempt

This is a first attempt of creating a time lapse using still images from a DSLR camera. I used various coasts of North Wales and put them altogether in Premiere Pro to create a short film. I used a tripod to keep the camera still and used a shutter release remote to take the photographs without shaking the camera.

ARD502 Locked Off Assignment Experimentation #1

I’ve been working on this assignment which is part of one of my modules called The Message; which involves using a technique called Locked Off. For this, I set the shutter speed on my SLR camera to 2″ and the aperture to its highest. ISO was also set to 100. This is one of the images I took whilst experimenting with this concept.
