The Message: Final Timelapse

Here is my finished version of my timelapse. I’m really pleased with the way it’s turned out considering I’ve never created my own before. I found editing slightly difficult at first but once I managed to get my head around the software I was using, I was fine and managed to finish. I think I prefer using photography more than film though, the quality of the footage from the photos look much clearer and show the transition much smoother than the film. I loved doing this project, its definitely inspired me to create more timelapse photography in future work.

Locations for Timelapse

These are the starting shots for each location I photographed for my timelapse. I took around 100 photos for each area so I would have enough footage. I also took three pieces of film in Penmon, Pentraeth beach and Tal-y-bont. I thought a mixture of both film and photography would be ideal to help me learn more about working with film.

ARD502 Time Lapse/Compression Assignment

Persuasion is a form of social influence. It is the process of guiding oneself or another toward the adoption of an idea, attitude, product or action by rational and symbolic, (though not always logical), means.

Time Lapse/Compression. Create a series of sequences that when speeded up compresses up compresses time in an interesting and creative way. Edit these together to a soundtrack using a linear and/or textured technique way. Think of a commercial outlet for this during the process and work out how the sequence can be utilised to persuade the audience to take a positive action.

Originally, this type of work would be produced on film by taking one frame a second/minute/day and even longer depending on the subject matter. Afterwards, digital animation systems became available that had built in clock and grab devices so a sequence of images could be captured in the same way. More recently, some camera also now include the ability to perform this process which brings everything around in a circle from film to digital. The alternative to this and the way you might go about this, is to record a sequence in real time and then speed it up by altering the frame rate.

It is important to have a vision of the end result when planning this assignment, so be highly aware of light, subject matter and and the way that the flow of action moves through the frame.

Requirements:

Assessment will be based on the completion of a sequence that:

  • Communicates a message in a creative way.
  • Considers the relationship between what is being communicated and target audience/viewer.
  • Explores narrative or non-narrative processes in cultural media.

This assignment will form part of a portfolio of work which will be formatively assessed at the end of the assignment and summatively assessed at the end of the module.
